An Interview with Michael Conchado, Wizeline Academy Mobile Bootcamp Graduate

Through Wizeline Academy bootcamps, professionals from around the world have an opportunity to upskill for free in just 6 to 8 weeks. In December 2021, Michael Conchado graduated from the Mobile Bootcamp and, thanks to his great performance, was offered a job at Wizeline, where he now works as a Mobile Engineer. We sat down with Michael to hear more about his story.

Please introduce yourself and tell us about your background prior to getting involved with Wizeline.

Hi! My name is Michael Conchado. I am a UI/UX designer and mobile developer from Colombia. I have worked with many agencies and companies that make software in Medellín. My last experience was working on my own product, a social media app focused on fitness.

What made you want to make the shift from design to mobile application development?

Well, when I decided to make my own product, I needed to learn to code. At that moment, I became a different person because I realized that I have the capability to learn new skills beyond design. I loved the whole experience.

What was your experience like in the Wizeline Academy Mobile Bootcamp? What was your favorite aspect of the program?

For me, the experience was magic. I had the opportunity to learn from people who have the same passion that I have — people who have a lot of experience and also the drive to teach. Overall, the most important thing for me was having a structured learning path, because this is something the self-taught people don’t have.

What is your current role at Wizeline, and what project are you working on now?

Currently I am working on an internal project called Wizepace, which is a product designed to help Wizeliners make the most out of our office space across the globe in a hybrid environment. In this project, I have seen my knowledge about architecture, design patterns and iOS development grow a lot. I am very happy about that.

What’s your favorite thing about Wizeline?

Something that makes Wizeline special is the way the company makes people feel like they are part of a great community where you can grow in your software development career path.

Finally, what would you say to someone who is considering enrolling in a Wizeline Academy bootcamp?

I would say just do it! It is a great opportunity where you are going to grow your skills quickly, plus you’ll get to meet awesome people!
