During a recent Saturday, Colombia wasn’t just about software. It was about community, curiosity, and conversations shaping technology’s future. The tech community in Colombia is thriving, particularly across the vibrant cities of Medellín and Bogotá, where Wizeline teamed up with Google Developer Groups (GDG) for a day of powerful talks, technical deep dives, and authentic human connection.

In today’s hyperconnected world, we believe the best tech solutions aren’t built in silos, they’re built in community. This specific weekend was proof that something special happens when developers, students, designers, and engineers gather to share what they know.

Bogotá: Speed, Intelligence, and Purpose-Driven Development

The energy in Bogotá was palpable from the moment the doors opened. Attendees from diverse tech backgrounds, from backend developers and product designers to AI enthusiasts and early-career devs, showed up ready to learn and engage.

One of the crowd favorites was a live demo on how to build an app from scratch using Windsurf AI IDE, a platform that integrates Rails with generative AI to streamline development workflows. More than a technical walkthrough, it was a glimpse into a future where developers shift from coding to designing more intelligent systems, aided by machine intelligence.

Another standout talk, “Swiftly iOS: Building Apple Apps Without the Pain,” tackled modern iOS development. The session highlighted how new tools and frameworks help developers simplify their mobile workflows. It spoke directly to two groups: those transitioning from web to mobile and seasoned iOS devs tired of legacy technical debt.

Medellín: Containers, Security, and Critical Thinking

While Bogotá explored development speed and innovation, Medellín opened space for reflection on equally pressing topics.

One of the most thought-provoking sessions was “When Data Lies,” which covered the dangers of misinterpreting analytics due to bias, flawed stats, or even well-intentioned decisions. With dashboards and predictive models now everywhere, the session reminded us that knowing how to read data is just as important as knowing how to generate it.

Another session explored Podman, a powerful alternative to Docker. Attendees learned why some teams are shifting to this container tool for greater flexibility, security, and reduced dependency on proprietary ecosystems. The topic sparked bigger questions: What does ethical infrastructure look like? How do we build systems that are open and secure by design?

Speaking of security, another popular session discussed how to integrate cybersecurity best practices early in the development process, not as a last-minute checklist but as part of a project’s DNA. In a world where security incidents are not “if” but “when,” this mindset shift is crucial.

Finally, a pragmatic yet inspiring demo showed how developers can build production-ready apps in minutes, not months, using streamlined workflows and innovative tooling. The takeaway? Shipping quality software doesn’t have to mean sacrificing speed.

More Than Tech: Shared Purpose and Real Connection

What stood out most this weekend was that it didn’t happen on stage. It happened between talks in the side conversations, impromptu brainstorming, and quiet mentorship moments.

We watched developers swap tips, designers ask questions about infrastructure, and students gather the courage to approach speakers after sessions. These spontaneous exchanges are what make in-person events truly irreplaceable.

But there was something else: a shared sense of purpose. Wizeline didn’t join these events as a sponsor or a guest. We showed up as part of the ecosystem, eager to contribute, ready to listen, and committed to learning alongside the community.

From the Stage to What Comes Next

For some attendees, this was their first encounter with Wizeline, our products, our people, and our way of working. For others, it began a deeper conversation about collaboration, career growth, and bringing events like this to other parts of the country.

The real impact of weekends like this isn’t measured in headcount or social media stats. It’s in the conversations that continue, the ideas that take root, and the partnerships that quietly begin after the final talk.

And that’s why we’ll keep showing up: When tech meets community, we open doors no roadmap could predict.
