Collaborating in a Knowledge-Sharing Culture at Wizeline

Hello, my name is Alvaro Cueva. I’m an Associate Manager and Senior Software Engineer at Wizeline, and I have 9 years of experience working as a developer.

Throughout my professional career, I have been involved in projects that have required me to learn quickly, ask for help, and help others. Technologies and languages are always changing, so I’ve found that it’s key to stay up to date and always continue learning.

What I like the most about working at Wizeline is the culture of sharing knowledge and helping others. I believe that sharing knowledge is one of the most effective ways to help people grow exponentially.

When I joined Wizeline, I was aware of the effort that Wizeline Academy was putting in to help people both inside and outside of Wizeline learn new technologies and languages.

There are plenty of online courses and training programs out there today, but they can be expensive. Wizeline Academy offers not only free courses, but also the opportunity to have a Wizeline engineer working closely with you, sharing knowledge, reviewing your code, offering mentoring sessions, and giving you feedback.

I was very interested in sharing my knowledge and experience as a Go developer, so I joined the Wizeline Academy team to design and create a space where we could share this knowledge. That’s how the Go Bootcamp was born.

So far, Wizeline Academy has offered five Go Bootcamps – two for Wizeline employees and three for the external community. The number of participants has been between 30 and 45 per bootcamp.

In these Go Bootcamps, participants can learn Go language starting from scratch or at an intermediate level, add Go to their tech stack, and work on a project using Go.

Already, around 15 people who have completed the Go Bootcamp have become Wizeliners.

Why Sharing Knowledge Is Important

In my experience as a mentor and tech lead, sharing knowledge is important because you can help others understand and learn new things while also having a valuable learning experience yourself. In the technology world, we have to learn and improve day by day, as the technologies constantly evolve or new ones appear.

Giving and receiving feedback is a KEY step to help everyone in their growth.

I’m proud to be a Wizeliner, and I’m happy to share my knowledge and experience to support others on their personal and professional learning journeys.
