In the colorful streets of Valle de Santiago and Irapuato in Guanajuato, Mexico, Mariel Ramirez embarked on a journey that extends beyond the ordinary. Her path from a curious, vibrant child to a leader in the realm of UX design at Wizeline is a narrative rich with diversity, challenges, and triumphs. Mariel’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration, illustrating how varied experiences can culminate in a remarkable career.

Childhood: Early Learning and Growth Experiences 

From the very beginning, Mariel’s childhood was far from one-dimensional. It featured a blend of activities that molded her into an independent and free-thinking individual. Achieving a black belt in taekwondo by the age of 13, she displayed early signs of discipline and dedication. Her forays into Hawaiian dance and basketball showed her rhythmic and athletic prowess. Languages were not just subjects to her; English and French became gateways to understanding diverse cultures. This mix of hobbies and studies laid the groundwork for a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and personal growth. 

Attending university at Tec de Monterrey further forged her educational and entrepreneurial spirit. Her environment encouraged innovation, critical thinking, and a problem-solving mindset, traits that would become invaluable in her professional life.

Career Path: A Journey of Exploration and Adaptation 

Mariel’s career journey thus far is a testament to her adaptability and thirst for new challenges. Her tenure at AIESEC shaped her understanding of leadership and its potential to enact positive change. This experience broadened her horizons, allowing her to see beyond her academic background in marketing and communications. 

Mariel’s accomplishments are as varied as her pursuits. Winning a European Commission-organized hackathon and securing a scholarship for a Silicon Valley entrepreneurship BootCamp are just a few highlights of determination. 

These experiences were also key stepping stones leading her to discover her passion for UX design. 

Wizeline: A Confluence of Ambition and Cultural Alignment

Eager to apply her experience and further broaden her skill set, Mariel sought a UX design role at Wizeline. With an emphasis on innovation, inclusivity, and lifelong learning, the company’s ethos resonated deeply with Mariel’s personal and professional values. While she initially faced rejection, she remained optimistic. Her eventual success in joining the company illustrates the power of perseverance and the importance of aligning one’s values with those of one’s workplace.
