They are behind the first Generative AI Lab of Latin America

October 16, 2023 – Wizeline, in collaboration with Tecnológico de Monterrey, has established the first Generative Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (G.AI.L) in Mexico and Latin America. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic research, entrepreneurship, and real-world applications of generative AI, fostering innovation in response to industry’s complex needs.

Bismarck Lepe, Wizeline’s CEO, and Haydé Martínez, Lead of Data & AI, are at the forefront of this endeavor. G.AI.L will emphasize open-source model development, prototyping, and entrepreneurial incubation. The laboratory will also create an Observatory of Generative Artificial Intelligence, producing reports, publications, and a comprehensive “Generative Artificial Intelligence Map.”

The hub will be located at Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Engineering and Science School in Guadalajara, with over 270 square meters of flexible workspace. It’s set to open in 2024 and will maximize the economic and social impacts of ethical AI use.

Wizeline’s commitment of around 9 million pesos will establish G.AI.L as Latin America’s epicenter for generative AI development. The laboratory will collaborate with various industries and technologies, applying AI to address diverse challenges such as agriculture and healthcare.

Bismarck Lepe, a tech entrepreneur with Mexican-American roots, underscores the importance of training individuals to harness AI’s potential for Latin America’s growth. He believes that G.AI.L will play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s AI landscape.

Haydé Martínez, a passionate advocate for AI, envisions the laboratory as a bridge between industry and academia, fostering innovation and knowledge sharing. It will engage students in real AI challenges through internships, community activities, workshops, and conferences.

Wizeline has also pledged a million-dollar scholarship program for the next five years, granting access to cutting-edge technologies. This initiative will enable innovative solutions to address industry and societal challenges.
