Wizeline Helps Discovery Manage Global Payments with Adyen
Wizeline is a product design and development services company with operations across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. Wizeline helps companies modernize their core technology and design data-driven, cloud-native products and platforms. Wizeline can also quickly deploy payment providers like Adyen and Stripe at scale. Partnering with an outside team means that your core product team can prioritize features tied to customer value or competitive differentiation.
Discovery Ads is the digital and TV advertising sales division of Discovery Communications, an American mass media company. In Latin America, Discovery Ads has focused on ad sales from small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and México. Discovery Ads created a transactional website to facilitate ad sales across its TV and digital properties, as well as requests for custom creative content (such as digital banners or TV spots).
Discovery Ads LATAM needed a quick solution for payments and enlisted Wizeline’s help in identifying the right implementation. Discovery needed a solution in place in just five weeks, so Wizeline began by evaluating out-of-the-box payment solutions.
Wizeline first evaluated whether the payment implementation would impact user flow in the application, database, or architecture design. A key consideration for Discovery was global currency compatibility. It was critical that Discovery Ads could process payment for all local currencies across Latin America. For example, some payment processors cannot support more than eight digits, and to support Colombia, 12 digits are required for conversion to USD (COL$ 0.000264901 = $1.00 USD).
After reviewing best-of-breed payment solutions, Discovery and Wizeline selected Adyen to support currencies in México, Colombia, and Brazil. Adyen’s payment solution accepts all key local payment methods globally.
Initially, Wizeline explored a number of Adyen checkout solutions for their client but eventually decided on Adyen Components. With Adyen Components they could customize elements of the payment flow and include a confirmation page in the user experience.
End to end, this project required one Wizeline engineer for five weeks of work. The first week was spent evaluating payment solutions and Discovery Ads’ architecture and user flows. In the second week, Adyen was approved by Discovery as the appropriate payment solution. To meet the deadline, Wizeline completed the proof of concept and final implementation work in the remaining 3-4 weeks.
Expanded revenue potential
Discovery Ads is now live in Latin America and provides additional revenue opportunities in the region. Wizeline and Discovery plan to collaborate in the future to continue building payment capabilities for this website.
The world buys, sells, and behaves differently today than nine months ago. Businesses and consumers were already using digital platforms and services before the pandemic, but while it was an option back then, now it’s the norm.
